I\'ve attempted to write several books, but have been stopped by the idea of how I\'m going to get it published. When i begin writing I\'m consumed with the characters and plot. I dont want to stop, but the fear or having the novel go nowhere puts the plug in the ideas flowing through my mind. I believe this book will help to overcome this and perhaps will lead me to publishing my first book.

That definitely gives some insight as to what to do from here on in. I\'ve got about 300 pages written, it\'s just sticking them altogether and figuring out where to go from there that I\'ve been having issures with.

If anyone would like to read a part and give me some insight I would really appreciate the help.

Interesting... good article, by the way.

I\'m thirteen and I\'ve been writing for a couple of years now with my good friend. We post some fiction on this website:

fanfiction.net/glenniecrombie

It\'s based off of a fandom, though.

It\'s just practice, but we can easily change the names and tweak the plot just a bit.

The thing is we have been thinking about cowriting an actual original novel, but how would we be able to get someone to look over it? Most people don\'t give the time of day to young aspiring writers. I\'ve read some books written by certain adult writers for young teens and could not help but wonder what it would be like to actually have something published.

Any advise?

:woohoo:

Good article

I have been looking to get into writing a book of my own now for quite some time.

I Have the ideas and am forever plotting the story since i am new to writing and just dont know how to approach it.

I know its tough in the begining everything is but this book might just be the key thanks.

The world sure is a difficult place and only 1 in 900 people actually stick with what they are aiming for...

thats me too

Re:

That\'s sort of funny--my friend and I are co-authors of a book which may become a series...We based the fantasy book we\'re working on off our school and our class, and we send it out a chapter at a time to our friends and those classmates. Yes, it\'s true that adults are the ones who will decide whether your book is up to snuff. But they\'re not your audience, I\'m guessing. So write the book. Have people your age read it. Ask for their honest advice--my friend and I have had extremely good feedback. The feedback might not say we did a good job, but it tells us what our audience wants to read, to see in their mind\'s eye. And if you can write for the age it\'s meant for, and the people of that age love it, the publisher you find will love you. (We can dream about a nice, good-hearted world, but let\'s be truthful. They\'ll like the money that the work of art you create with pen and paper will bring in. But what does it matter why they ublish your book? It\'s published, and you can take pride in saying: \"I am a PUBLISHED young author. I can do anything I attempt.\"

Sorry for the spiel. =D

Good luck!

Feel free to contact, too... avampyres@hotmail.com

Dont worry about trying to set it up at this stage, Just write it up and put it on the website for review at least. Take your time and hopefully you will get some feedback on how you write, watch your spelling.
Just check the web site out and your\'ll get the jist of things.

 My recent book is almost 20 pages long, but it is the rough draft. So far, I have barely(i forgot how to spell ting real soonhat. Sorry!) began chapter two. It is based off a series that I love, and I have credited it in the book. I red this article and I was confused on what the author was trying to say in the example provided. I am going into 10th grade now so this book should get intresting real soon. Only I don\'t have the time to read it since I am taking 8 difficult classes this semester. Good luck to everyone else.

I\'m 13 and writing a book. Ever since I was a little kid I have loved writing, and I\'ve been trying to write books for at least a year but have only recently stuck to a book and finished it :side:.
I\'m getting part of it looked over by someone at the moment. And to all young authors out there: never give up. If this is your dream, then chase it.

I find it surprisingly interesting that every comment that is posted above my comment contains a very obvious typo of some sort. The majority of the typos consist of failure to capitalize when necessary, but some are not to subtle. If even one were well written, I may not be so skeptical, but EVERY entry on a writers \"forum\"?! I don\'t think so! These are fake!
Nonetheless, this book looks like it could be very beneficial.

Replying to Melissa, this is a casual forum where people are engaging in a conversation like exchange. The fact that there is errors lies with the informality of the setting. No one would submit a finished work without checking it VERY carefully, however, that is not the atmosphere of this setting. Please enjoy the articles and take from the comments that which is helpful and feel free to leave the rest.

hey, i\'ve started writing a novel. I would like to know how long it took you people to figure out who the main characters were going to be and where the story would be set, the plot basically. I keep on changing my mind constantly, 2 or 3 times a day, i even dream about it...I also hesitate about whether i should be the main character or not.

I\'m sixteen years old. I\'m not writing a fantasy, or a love story, or any sort of novel for that matter. I am, however, trying to put together a book of poems. I feel that I have enough and they\'re all worth it. I\'m just not sure how to go about getting it put together and published. So.. help? please?

one thing you need to do is be patient. it may take a while to find a publisher. also you need to find out what others think of your book. a good place to go t do that is www.worthyofpublishing.com
it is a great site that other people can read you book and leave you coments of how they liked it. they can also rate it. it is a great site to use in trying to find out if your book is really good and if people will buy it. thats just what i did but there are many ways.

I like writing and have actually posted some of my work on a site called worthy of publishing but I have an idea for a book that I think will be very interesting. I am 15 but I have always been into reading and writing. The book I have posted is a poetry book but the one I am thinking about writing is more of a teen\'s life / romance type thing. I was just trying to find some pointers on writing that might be helpful.

wow, no one get too excited...how many of you have actually done research on the possibilities of your novel getting published? I mean, seriously! nothing about your class or a fanfic is going to get published 4real. I\'ve written both, 4 fun, but u\'ll have to upstage it 500% for it to even be considered. I\'m 15 and i want to get published too, but really, i\'m not expecting anyone to jump at my novel, no matter how long i work on and edit it.

i\'m not sayin give up ur dream. What i am sayin is that u should practice and practice untill you honestly beleive that someone who\'s already read a million manuscripts that morning and isn\'t really ready to give you half a chance will like your novel enough to submit it to the next level, and on up.

That, and i suggest a TON more personal research.

the more you want something, the easyer it is to get it. why brake someones spirits? let everyone beleave that they will get published and i bet you many will. not all, ofcorse, but some will. if someone wants something hard enough they will get it. or pretty dang close.

Camille,
Most authors put a little of themselves into most or all of their characters. It\'s ok. Don\'t make it totally about you unless you have a very exciting life that people would want to read about.
As far as setting goes, write about an area that you love or would love to visit. If you don\'t know about the area, make sure you do your homework.

Just do your homework and don\'t spend a fortune on self-publishing. There are sites that will allow you to publish just one book. One the other hand, some that make you buy up to 3,000 books (which sometimes end up filling your garage).

This segment really made me giggle when I read it.
The whole section of drainage stuff was humorous.
It truly was.
I was actually trying to find a website on how to get a big publishing company to read my F.D. (final draft) and see if its good or not.

Funny article.

I\'m a 35 year-old male.

One morning, I was arrested and jailed and my family was gone and I didn\'t know why.

My sister recommended that I make a log to help me cope.

That was about two years ago. It\'s been a heck of a journey. Turns out my wife was un-diagnosed seasonally psychotic bipolar with persecutory delusions and had immagined me attacking her.

I\'m thinking about publishing my log. It\'s got more twists and turns than any book I ever read and I wouldn\'t believe it myself if I didn\'t live it.

Any suggestions?

It helps to have an unbiased oppinion, as you probably no, friends and family just don\'t offer an unbiased oppinion. But to find a good canadate to read your novel and actually provide honest feedback, you might want to find someone who is interested in the subject you are writing about. Otherwise, there opinion will be lacking in comment as well.

Well, I\'m writing a book, also. But what I\'m wondering is where would one take a an unpublished manuscript to be copyrighted and published? Also, is age a concern? I am only fifteen, so I\'m not sure how that works out. Not to mention, I was also wonderng if during the publishing process if there are editors because I\'ve notice horrid grammar and spelling (as well as a abnormal amount of redundancy and lack of description along with a large amount of plain idolence with the mistakes and plot)Which brings me to my fear: I have this, what I\'d like to call, \"out of the crazy\" story that is truely addicting and often makes me wish I didn\'t know the ending already; though, what if my ignorance leads it to be truley horrid. any help? :0

AGE!!!!

I\'m 14 and am currently writing a novel. But the one thing that always accures after this introduction, is AGE! Age should not matter that much, unless your really young. I mean i\'ve heard of a good handful of young (12 and up) adults getting published, so think about it. Age doesnt really matter. What matters really if you want to get published is how good your manuscript is. Thats what really gets you published, your work not your age. So stop freaking out about how old you are and if its going to lower your chances of getting published. if you want it bad enough age should not stop you.

...I need this book.

I\'m writing a novel at the moment. Currently, I\'m only on Chapter 8, just at the very beginning of it. I doubt I\'ll get finished before the month is out (because I\'ve had to work and look for college and things of that sort), but seriously, this should be a great help for me.

I notice a bunch of people are posting stuff on fanfiction.net. I\'m guilty of posting a few things there as well, but at the same time, I have an idea for a major work that\'ll eventually become a series.

By the way... I\'ve had a friend of mine tell me that a bunch of publishers won\'t even look twice at a manuscript unless it catches their interest. Which of course is what I\'m afraid of; I might not be able to get ANYONE interested at all.

I am currently writing a book and I thought this article was awesome. I have already done about 12 drafts of a section of my book. I have completed my book but am typing it up to re-edit it over. But you definitly have to make sure that all the sentence structures make sense. Tat\'s why I ask some of my friends and relatives to read my story, so that it is not just my view. They are able to help spot different errors and point out confusions.

It really works.

it is true, all the big publishing sites will not look at anything that isn\'t very intesting to them. what you have to do is keep sending a letter asking to send it in before hand to as many publishing companies as you can that print books in your genre. if nothing works, though, try self publishing (a great site is createspace.com) and there you can just set it up yourself and sell it. :)

I have a question.
I am currently writing a book, I\'m not too far into it yet, but I was wondering if it would be better to write it on paper or on the computer? I\'m leaning to the computer because; A, you have spell check. B, you don\'t have to worry about spoiling your work with coffee spills. C, you don\'t have to type it out again when your ready to print it and have it published.
That\'s all I was wondering. I\'d be thankful to get someone else\'s opinion about this.
Go ahead and email me at

Kartikey - looking at your three near-identical posts, I think that if you\'re planning to write your book in English, then you need to master the language first - simple things like spelling, punctuation and so on. Then when you\'ve dome that you can move on to more complex things like plot and narrative. Think of it as being like a sport - you have to master the basic techniques first before you can become a professional.

Hello.
I\'m fifteen and I\'m writing two books. Well It started out as one and then about 84 pages into my first one, I had to write down anoter idea. Oh, well, I\'m just saying out of my analysis, I found that out of my publishing offers or whatever you would perfer to call them, that selgf publishing is the best. Well, if you go to Lulu.com you can selfpublish and buy your own ISBN thing and they have other services. You pay for one copy--your copy--and then they put it on they\'re site, they are linked to borders and WeRead.com. So, Check it out.
Oh but I Wanted to know if someone could help me, I\'m not sure on a few things. So if anyone could help me with formatting and plot? If so that would be great!I\'ve always had a problem with mking things go to fast, ever since sixth grade when I wrote a whole book worth of ideas in sixteen pages. ^^\"

the year with Sara

hey im natasha and i am wrighting a story and i would like to know what you think about it so here it is and hope you like it. :P

She was young ,sixteen and amazingly beautiful, blue eyes brown hair and always wearing something spectacular. Her name is Sara and I am James the new guy as everyone calls me. When I arrived at Popon state school I had butterflies like I couldn\'t believe, and seeing Sara didn\'t make it any better. There I was standing there like a dumb Ass in front of an enormous school I had no friends and no relatives at Popon which makes life harder. I was in my first class (art) and Sara walked up to me, she wanted to know what on earth I was drawing and then commented on how good I was, I told her that I was bad and she just gave me her number and smiled. I immediately scooped my phone from out of my pocket and dialled the scatted numbers into my brand new phone.

I arrived home and mum (as usual) told me to unpack my bag and then I had to make my way into the kitchen and unpack the stupid dishwasher, my thoughts were great, here we go again and I have better things to do.
Well time to go to bed so peace out man.

Morning, thank god its Friday first up double lesson with Sara and sexy Sami yes score. Well I arrived at school and Sara was being the person I thought she wasn\'t ,mean and selfish . I approached her and asked her why she was using cursive language at Sami, and she said that Sami has feelings for me and was planning to ask me out, I told Sara that I had no interest for Sami which is a very big lie and that I wouldn\'t trade her for the world ha ha yeah right.

This article really helped me out. I\'m an 18 year old writer but I\'ve been writing since I was 12 or 13. I\'ve never really finished a book because I lose interest. However, I\'m writing a new book now. It is a very different genre then I used to write, so I believe it will hold my interest where others could not. So, I guess I must buy this book now. Thanks again.

Hi,

I have read your comment and would like to offer some encouragment to you. I have never written or published a book, but it is clear to me that you should not worry about wheather or not the book gets published. Let yourself get ingrossed with the plot and the characters and create your vision of what the book should be. If you let your fears of never being published stop you then you NEVER WILL publish the book because it will be incomplete. Complete the book and the rest will follow :)

Hey, don\'t worry about getting it published until the book is actually finnished and edited.
There is no point in stressing yourself out with no good reason, first you should make sure the plot, characters and general idea of the book is well writen and interesting for your intended audience.

Love the artical
Good luck aspiring writers

Wow.. at the age of 11, I was hopeful and I thought, just like you guys, that what I wrote was good, but I\'ve matured and I realized it\'s not as easy. I\'m actually going into Creative Writing at university, but still- that doesn\'t mean I\'ll get anything published. I know you have to work hard, and edit your work 235 times before even considering sending it for publishing. For those young writers, you guys have to give it time, because honestly- not one publisher will look at an eleven year old\'s work. Practice is all I can say.

Well the article kinda seemed interesting , however I dont know why I liked Mr. R2D2Y or his technical overview. one thing that i believe here is me and my writing offcourse.. well M not a major author or something , but tell you the thruth, I have written book too. one thing that i must admit that, when i started i just had a character somewhere in my mind whom i wanted to potray inside some fat book .However, later when i reached the 228th page i believe i had comepleted the entire thing. offcourse thinking about something (say the character of my book)constantly and an urge to make someone like something comes with a rigid practice and a self heroic mind ,where you kinda never give up. I am not denying the fact that the article was a good self help , however as i said , its only your mind that can create something uniqe and give it a life inside some pages .. anyways.. nice work.. and yeah MR . R2D2Y, i dunno who you are.. but nice thinking..

This article really helped me! Although I\'m still a little worried that the book I\'m working on won\'t be good enough for anyone to want to publish. I\'ve only written 18 pages, but I\'ve got the entire thing outlined. Because of that, I have a quick question for you; Do you think I should try to contact publishing houses before I finish my novel, to make sure my story is actually publish-worthy? Or should I continue to write it so that in the case that it is, I can produce a copy immediately if they ask about it?

:?: I was just wondering what Country your from. It does help to know how to write in English, but do you know about America? I would love to read your book when done. I enjoy anothers point of view on this country. Don\'t let people stop you from writing. Unless you do alot of fixing on the English grammer, you might have some draw backs. You take the good with the bad. Good Luck

:cheer: Hey peoples for those who are experenced, a lot of kids at my school say i do have a great ability to write essays like my narrative essays and persausive essays which one is below I made all by myself. I wanted to start a book because my teacher, who is the greatest Language Arts teacher ever and who I greatly have the pleasure to be in her class, told me and only me that I had put soo much details into my essays that i could right a book i was surprised at what she had said and that very night i started to type the book i\'m working on right now. Plus I also had another idea for a book so i\'m writing 2 books. I know tough right? Not so much but i\'m not giving much of the details of both of my books.

The first one is about two places and it switches between the both of them too so it may be long. But I have two main characters who are in different realities one w/ magic another without knowing magic exists until one of them blows a bike tire and gets invited into a old, crazy, magical guy\'s house

The second is about a girl(kinda like me) who loves to read books :P :) ! Everyone ignores her and then she casts a spell to make her invisible until she realizes she can\'t reverse it. Being invisible has given her time to read books though and kept her 13 for 3years after her family moves. Then a boy comes and sees her, hears her, and talks to her. He realizes he loves her and has got to be like her or help her, problem is will he be to reverse the spell or be exactly like her forever?

Interesting isn\'t it? :?: I would like to get at least one of them publish and here\'s my essay and i don\'t mind if this isn\'t in comments! Ps i know it is a long comment:
School Lunches

Change of School Lunches

Everyday we have the same old, boring, disgusting lunch at some other time in the year during lunch at school. I think we need a change in our menus. Who really wants to eat some disgusting meal over and over again?
First and Foremost, there are many reasons why our awful lunches should be changed to yummy and delicious meals. One way is it would be good is we would be getting more lunch and we would be eating lunch. If we got lunch more it would increase bringing lunch money to school and that would give the school money to use to buy foods for lunch and other necessities. Another reason is that we would be eating more and more. We wouldn

Just posting my comment

I honestly believe your being quite harsh... if you would notice that while typing on the computer and texting, people usually write short form to save time... although he spelt \"figure\" wrong it was most likely due to the fact that he was typing quite quickly and if you would notice, he did type all the letters needed for the word \"figure\", it was merely typed so quickly that it must have jumbled up and turned into \"fiuger\".

Another thing, when writing a book it is understandable to spell out every word completely and most definetly properly... but may I say that this is merely a website meant for posting comments about the article written above NOT for commenting that another is not good ENOUGH to write based on one small statement written by them.
ALSO you can hardly call them stupid when you are the ones picking a fight with someone who could very well write better than you yourself, you cannot deny that statement when you the reader has not met or talked to this person outside of a small comment written by them.
PS- Your comments for the most part are right FOR and WHEN you are writing a BOOK, not a comment.
Plus, putting someone down simply to make yourself feel better about YOUR writing is WRONG ... just don\'t sink to that level whether or not his writing is GOOD or NOT! But, that\'s simply my opinion...

Also, not going to point out anyone, BUT mocking ain\'t cool

My characters have changed because I stepped away for so long before I picked it up again and now I\'m sort of lost. Anyone have advice for my situation? I don\'t know how to keep my ideas fresh even though I write them down. I\'ll have an idea and come back to it later and it will make no sense to me. My brain just doesn\'t work anymore. :s

Well then, this is a surprise. I am baffled at the comments I found on this book review. I find it rather ironic that so many people commented on this particular book, that obviously can not or should not even write a simple commentary.

I would agree, with previous posts, that mastering the English language is a must before you move on with a novel written in English. If you have a wonderful story and English is a second language then write it in your native tongue. More importantly idiosyncrasies of your culture that may be relevant in the book, may be lost in translation.

I am very impressed with the 13-14 year old aspiring authors. Please hang in there. Dreams realized early are precious and should be explored as far as you can take it, but don\'t loose out on adventures and living the real stories along the way. You have so much life yet to be lived and explored I am envious of your youth and the blank page that is your future. Good luck. I hope to see you all on the best seller lists of the future.

I\'m interested in publishing the letters and diaries of my greatgrandfather\'s from the civil war, grandfathers from WWI, and my fathers and his brothers letters from WWII. About 2,000 pages in all. They are humorous, heart wrenching, informative and an overall really interesting read. The \"characters\" are, of course, real people. I also had 9 reels of 16mm film transferred to DVD of my dad and his brothers (the one\'s who served in WWII) during their childhood and in uniform as adults home on leave during the war. The childhood films are sooo funny and sweet. Just like \" The Little Rascals\"... Skating, Sledding, playing baseball, riding horses...etc.
So any ideas? I could write on and on about all of the information I have but don\'t want to bore anyone if it\'s of no interest to anyone.

You can get a book published no matter your age. You might need someone \"of legal age\" to sign agreements on your behalf. If you have a good book then you should try. What\'s the worst that could happen? They could say \"No\". That\'s it. I say you should go for it! Follow your dreams!

Publishing at 14 when you don\'t have money?

Hi,
Great article; I\'ll be honest and tell you that I skimmed a lot of it, but I get the message that a lot of us young authors/writers need to hear... I learned a lot about writing through fan fiction. I\'ve written fan fiction for about a two years now, and my skills have really gone up... and I\'m wanting to actually publish an original story now so that I can get out there and earn a little cash so that I can pull my own weight at home when it comes to all the extra things I want.

My only issue is how to publish it... Being 14, I DONT have money, and curerenly my parents don\'t have spare money either. Do you know of a way that people my age can publish their writings without the large sum of money? Are there publishers out there who will sponser someone of such a young age (In the USA)?

as everyone i would like to publish a book but im not expecting anyoone 2 publish let aloone look at my book
i did start writing a book this time last year but didnt get very far - its a sort of autobiography, kind of but i got bored myself as there was only so much i could say with fear that the people i mentioned in the book may see it. i wanted to elaborate on some of the sections to make them more exciting but i didnt want to lie.
i eventually gave up on the book until about a week or so ago something triggered me to start again.
now like i said - i dont expect it to be published, however, i cannot bare the thought of my family reading it if it miraculously does get published - this is holding me back as its hard to keep it all a secret and its harsh to deny my own family
its just having to tone down the reality that makes my story or change/express things in a different way...writing it seems evermore pointless
still, :side: if anyone does know how to get it published - full details - where to send it, how much is it etc
i would be eternally grateful

Not to mention getting drunk and shooting a the local police. And prison.Think that would be something that you would want to read?

behind the eyes of real love

im 12 years old as well myself let me give you an example of my main character Eve.

\"what is real love\" ,eve said to herself
finding once again she was questioning the world itself without no decent answer.she smelled the fresh november air and sang \"All my little plans and schemes
Lost like some forgotten dream
Seems like all i really was doing
Was waiting for you

Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys
Seems like all they really were doing
Was waiting for you

Don\'t need to be alone
No need to be alone

It\'s real love
It\'s real, yes it\'s real love
It\'s real

From this moment on i know
Exactly where my life will go
Seems that all i really was doing
Was waiting for love

Don\'t need to be afraid
No need to be afraid

It\'s real love
It\'s real, yes it\'s real love
It\'s real

Thought i\'d been in love before,
But in my heart i wanted more
Seems like all i really was doing
Was waiting for you

Don\'t need to be alone
No need to be alone

It\'s real love
Yes it\'s real, yes it\'s real love
It\'s real, yes it\'s real love...\"the beatles soft but powerful lyrics playing in her head, reminding her why she woke up every morning....

:) You are smart. Don\'t think just because a few friends think you have a good story that you have mastered the craft. I just read a friend\'s daughter\'s book she had self published. It was cute but not that good. lots of stuff missing and it had no drive to it, nothing that made you want to turn the page or read the next chapter. Make sure you end each chapter with something that makes the reader want to go on. :P

Your friends don\'t want to hurt your feelings. Have and adult editor, edit it and really tell you what is wrong. Make sure you have your armor on cuz its gonna hurt. I found that when I listened to my editor friend who really told me what was wrong AND how to fix it, I did what she said without changing the story and now it will be published this Nov. Find an editor you can trust and Listen, listen and see what they say about your characters/plot. I suggest you go to www.writing.com and join. I have grown so much by writing and entering contests and reviewing others that my book is being edited now for a publisher. This site is the best!

make it good

B) This is because you don\'t read fantasy. What makes your story is Plot. what you have is the plot now in 15 pages. Go back and say, what are my characters thinking in this situation? How do they react to each situation.
BIG things to think about 1) what is the goal of your main character? what are the goals of your sub characters?
2) list what motivates your character to get to the goal? the same with your sub characters?
3) what conflicts are stopping them from reaching that goal?
4) What did they do to overcome the conflict to get to the goal.
Think about the Wiz of oz. Dorthy wanted to get home, The OZ told her she had to get the red slippers, the witch and munchkins and monkeys and poppies, were all conflicts to keep her from that goal. Then the Wiz told her what to do and she did it and Voila\' she woke up at home. Each of the other characters helped in their own way to achieve their goals and help Dorothy. Use this same format in your story and see if it makes it longer and better.

just filling up 200 pages isn\'t enough. I have read so many new authors writing Vamp/ware stories that it is scary how really bad they are. If you want to publish, you have to be ready to have someone pick apart your story and then you have to re write. I have re written by book twice and now it is in the editing stage. I wear thick armor to hear reviews, but they help make my story better.
Do you have a goal for your main character? and a motivation? some conflict? and a resolution? good start, now do you have that in each chapter? No? go and rewrite!!

I don\'t blame you, actually. I blame the school system. However, you may want to consider taking some courses or reading some books that are intended specifically to improve your grammar, spelling, and general mastery of the English language.

Write because you enjoy it, because you have ideas that bursting to get out. So what if it never gets published. When your 80 are you going to look back and go gee I am glad I didn\'t waste my time putting my ideas on paper. Or are you going to go I am glad I did it. Most people spend alot of time regretting what they DIDN\'T do in life and little time wishing they didn\'t bother. Think about it.

I\'m sixteen, and like a few of you I\'ve been writing ever since I can remember. My dad tells me that I wrote my first \"real book\" when I was four. And I just wanted to say that even when I was four, I thought that book was \"THE BOOK,\" the one that was going to be published and be on the list of bestsellers. Of course, that\'s not true. Looking back on it, I realize that it needed a ton of work at the very least.

I\'ve written quite a few books since then. I actually have three drawers full of manuscripts and ideas, character profiles and random phrases and ideas, all waiting to be pieced together or rewritten. My latest book (a fantasy) I\'ve been editing, revising, and renovating for almost two years, not counting the year or two I spent writing it. A lot of it is removing cliches (such as elves and dwarves), giving the characters some real personality and life, and creating a plot that is neither too dull nor so complicated that it\'s painful to read. I\'ve cut out whole chapters, even multiple chapters and rebuilt them from the ground up. I\'ve even changed parts of the plot and the villain\'s goals. And it\'s not just because I\'m a perfectionist. It\'s because I try to look at it from the reader\'s perspective and see what is too dull, too whimsical, or simply just irrelevant.

So I just wanted to suggest that if you write a book, be prepared to tear the whole thing apart and rebuild it. I think someone posted above that it\'s not uncommon fr people to rewrite their manuscript ten or more times. And that\'s because sometimes you really do need to rewrite it, if only in parts. Sometimes an idea you think is really great isn\'t that great. Sometimes a part you really like contributes absolutely nothing to the story at all, or actually diminishes it. And sometimes your characters will be flat and lifeless, or just plain unnecessary. Be prepared to look at these points with a critical eye, and be open to changing them. It might be difficult to rip up your story and try to reconstruct it, but in the long run it really is worth it. Your story will be so much better, and your characters so much more lifelike. I know, because I read over my original manuscript the other day, the one I thought was a masterpiece, and just laughed because it was so ridiculous and dull. So I\'m just warning you - be ready and willing to rewrite, rebuild, and uproot, because even if you don\'t do it on your own accord, your editor will more than likely have quite a few suggestions that involve doing exactly that.

Thanks for pointing out what as wrong with the example, I saw the death blow one.
I\'m twelve, and I hope to become a writer when I\'m older, or right now, if that\'s possible for me. I do know that it\'s difficult to get your book published, so I have thought of self - publishing, but I think getting your book published by a publisher is better. I\'ve seen my friend reading a book written by a twelve year old, and I thought it was pretty good.
I actually don\'t believe that you can publish a book a the age of nine or ten because I didn\'t learn how to write properly until around Grade 5,and I felt rather silly because my puntuation and grammer weren\'t exactly that great, and my vocabulary was quite limited.

The type of book I want to write is romance for young adults, something like the Twilight series from Stephanie Meyer, and become mega rich like J.K. Rowling. Also things like Newyork times #1 best seller, and the Newberry award. (Okay, maybe not the Newberry award.)

To the other people: Don\'t be overconfident by your story, you might be crushed when it\'s rejected, but don\'t have no confidence either, becaue it might be better then you think.
