Suffice it to say, you should not have to lay out a penny. You should sell using North American Rights or First Rights (which retains rights to the material after the book is published). This means that after the book is published, or perhaps even before, you can sell lots of magazine articles (based on things in the book), to promote the work. This is a common practice. I\'m sure that was hard. Your book is actually a novelette. If you haven\'t been published before, it probably needs to be professionally edited. Your best bet is to publish it yourself, as it is very difficult to sell a novelette if you are an unpublished author.
