In our recent teleseminar with writer Haley Elizabeth Garwood, she said that she always starts with an out line. Grab a rather large sheet of paper or white board, a bunch of post-it notes, and start outlining your book. Or, use the outlining feature of MS Word. Outline your plot - where does it start? What happens to create tension/conflict? Some authors don\'t know how it ends until they get there. Do what works best for you. Outline your characters - who are they? What\'s their history and background? Describe their personalities, quirks, and inner conflict. What are the relationships between characters? As you outline your story and describe your characters, you should get some ideas as to where and how to start the story. Then, start writing. I joined to become one of few, the proud but even though I have been out over 10 years, I still can\'t get it out of my system. I spent my 4 years in the Corps. in which I hated everyday and wishing I was back on the block. Since then I spent everyday looking for what I did not know I had. True friends, a job like no other and the feeling being part of something huge that not just anyone can become. Since the Marines have held over 8 different jobs, including truck driving for Pepsi, Postal Service, and U.S Customs Inspector, Deputy Sheriff, Cadet-California Highway Patrol, Immigration Officer for USCIS and owner operator of my own business. U.S. Air Force Reserves and other jobs in between. I am still planning to move to new positions in the near future. I feel that I am never satisfied and always comparing the Marines to my jobs. I get bored and want to try the next thing. I have wild stories that are about as crazy as you can imagine and lived all over the county chasing my next career.
