Don't underestimate connecting with others in your expertise area -- Rebecca Morgan
You've no doubt heard the advice that when you find a column, article, or
blog in an area similar to your expertise, you should write to the author. I've
begun doing this in earnest and am amazed at the results. The key, I've found,
is to sincerely compliment them on something they've said, and offer to be a
resource for them. Don't promote yourself, your book, Web site or blog. As a
result of this, a syndicated columnist in my topic area has become a frequent
pen pal. I featured a virtual interview with him in my blog, as well as added a
link to his column on my links list. After being in contact for only three
weeks, he featured my blog in his column this week and my readership grew nearly
300%.
I've found that other bloggers on my topic offer to link once I share a
relevant comment on their blog and a link on my blogroll.
This is another example of the results you can produce by following the sage
advice of offering something to others without any request for or expectation of
reciprocity. Connect with one columnist, journalist or blogger this week.
