Lightning Source to Offer Full-Color Printing for Print on Demand 

Lightning Source is pleased to announce the launch of color book on-demand book manufacturing and distribution.   

Beginning September 6, 2006, Lightning Source publishers may begin to set up and send files to Lightning Source for color books.  We will begin the manufacture of color book proof copies immediately.  Full production of color books will begin October 2006.  

Color Books from Lightning Source:   

• Lightning Source will manufacture color books in two trim sizes: 8.5X8.5 and 8.5X11
• Lightning Source will bind color books in two bind types based on page count:
• Saddle stitch binding for books with 3 - 47 pages
• Perfectbound binding for books with 48 - 480 pages

Color books can be ordered in any quantity and can be shipped to any location you designate.  If you opt to take advantage of our distribution program, our distribution partners include Ingram, Amazon, Barnes &Noble, Baker & Taylor and others.

All Lightning Source publisher partners have control over all books that are housed in our Digital Library. Lightning publisher partners set the retail price, wholesale discount and return policy on a title-by-title basis for each book. 

How it Works:

• Publisher sets retail price
• Publisher sets retail discount
• Wholesale price is the retail price times the discount percent
• Print Cost - $2.50 for an 8.5X8.5, 16 page, 4-color interior Saddle stitch book, submitted digitally - price determined by number of pages

This is a very important announcement, as it sets the stage for many print on demand publishers to offer color books. For perhaps the first time, for example, authors can create full-color children's books at a very reasonable print on demand price. Don't be surprised to see many publishers like iUniverse, Lulu, and others providing options for full color printing.
