Find out how to get your book published.  Even if you haven't finished writing your book yet, here is valuable information to increase your chance for success.  The more you know about publishing and Self Publishing, the better off you are.

To Publish or Self Publish

That is the Question!

How many times have we at Ink Tree heard someone say “I’d love to write a book”? - probably more times than we can possibly count. We do believe that there is a book in everyone and when the time is right for those individuals they will step up to the plate and make it happen.

Now, here is where it gets interesting. In our experience we have found and believe that the more information and understanding that an individual has about the “publishing industry” the better prepared and the less mistakes they will make… and believe us, self-publishing/publishing mistakes can be very costly.

Know the industry, find out what works and what doesn’t, know when to do something yourself or hire an expert, know what is happening and current, understand every aspect of how things work… learn, learn and learn.

Below are some key points to being more successful, whether you self publish or are accepted by a publishing house… know your stuff!

• Read everything you can possibly read on publishing and self publishing (check the Ink Tree Ltd. website at www.inktreemarketing.com which is a great resource of information, suggested titles of importance and must reads)

• Buy Ink Tree’s Ultimate Book Marketing - it’s your publishing bible

• Google and research the internet for publishing information

• Talk to authors and people who have published books

• Search out literary groups in your area. Find clubs that you can join and learn from them

• Spend time in bookstores: talk to the people who work there and search out books that can help

• Know the time commitment, what’s involved and how to budget for your publishing experience

Whether you self publish or have a publishing house take on your book, you would be wise to understand how each area works: then and only then will you be able to make the decision of which way you want to go.

On the outside looking in it can seem like a there’s nothing to publishing or self-publishing. The reality is this is a very tough business to be in. If you are considering writing a book sometime in your life, let us ask you the following questions and see how many of these you know the answers to:

• Do you know how to get an ISBN Number?

• How do you get distribution for your book?

• Do you own your book when you publish with a Publishing House?

• What kind of costs are involved with publicity…how do I do or get publicity?

• How do you stop someone from stealing your story ideas?

• What are testimonials and do I need them?

These are just the tip of a huge iceberg of information you will need to know the answers to in order to understand what’s involved in publishing or self-publishing. In actual fact, self-publishing will become your “business” as there is much to do and know in order to get the completed book finished and on the book stands…and that is only the beginning!

Our intent at Ink Tree is to encourage you and to help you create a saleable book. We want your success for you as much as you do and we also want your experience of “writing a book” to be rewarding and filled with great optimism. Because we know the good, bad and different aspects of this industry through experience we want to share this with you all because if you do it write, you will do it well and reap the success you feel in your heart that you deserve.
