900 Pound Gorilla strikes again!You may or may not be familiar with how the search engines work. Well, whatever it is you thought you knew, forget about it.
The rules have changed... dramatically.
First it was the Google Slap... then another... and ANOTHER.
After the carnage, thousands of Google AdWords advertisers were left
licking their wounds with low Quality Score ratings. And that was just
AdWords advertisers.
Now, Google is going after the coveted search engine results rankings -
you know, whether or not you're going to end up on the first page of
Google or the last.
Figure it this way: about 67% of all clicks are on the first THREE
listings in Google. Sites that show up in the second 10 hardly ever get
clicked.
I know this is true because as soon as my site got into the top three
for two choice keyword phrases, the number of unique visitors to my
site skyrocketed.
Well, things are going to get a lot worse for people who are
building their sites according to last year's search engine
optimization standards. Two months ago Google released a new
patent application and revealed some *scary* insights about their plans
to use LSI (Latent Symantic Indexing), phrase matching and
co-occurrence to automatically seek-and-destroy websites relying on
natural search as well.
Translated, this means that unless your web site is using the above
techniques on your web pages (what's called a "Themed" approach to
keywords), your ranking in Google may drop - considerably.
On the other hand, if you adhere closely to the new standards (LSI,
phrase matching, co-occurrence), you're going to LEAP to the top.
It's what I did, and it worked. In less than three months my site shot
from "Not Found" in search engine results pages to #2 for one keyword,
#3 for another, and in the top ten for three more keywords.
