Chapter 53

  Evelyn

  ***

With the sun going down, I lifelessly flopped down on my bed. This was the first time I’ve slept at home in almost two months. School had obviously been canceled from the incident and the city was currently in mourning. Given how many people lost their lives, that was to be expected. Since the incident, my days have been filled with healing the injured, attending funerals, and speaking with the Regents. To avoid passing out from overwork, I’ve done it all as Melody, leaving little time for Evelyn. I don’t even have the energy to use a spell to clean myself up…

To be honest, the situation was bad. Luckily my friends, the Saints, and Regents were all alive thanks to luck and the Shadows, but not everyone was so lucky. Even though the attack only sted for only about two minutes, so many people died. Thanks to Robbie’s wish we don’t need to worry about rebuilding, but the city’s workforce has been drastically reduced with many shops, houses, and even whole blocks left empty. Not only that but many noble families had lost successors or were just out right ended. It’s a turbulent time for The Empire…

“Finally some rest…” Angelica flopped down beside me.

“We saved the city…!” I cheered as best I could into my pillow.

“Is this what it’s like being a Magical Girl on Earth?” She asked.

“I was on a team…” I said. “There were like twelve teams in Vegas…”

“So that means vacation time?” She asked.

  “No…” I sighed.

“Your goddess is a sve driver…” She said.

  “No she’s cool…” I argued.

Although I do kind of of want some help in dealing with these sorts of things. Being this world’s sole magical girl is a bit tiring… Raising my head, I looked out my window. I should probably close the blinds. I don't think that the twins are still spying on me, but there is always a chance…

Slowly I pushed myself off my bed and headed to the window. Looking outside I saw the empty streets. It doesn't look like anyone is hiding out there. Speaking of hiding, all of the Shadows have been busy since the incident. I haven’t got time to talk to any of them, except 17 when talking with the Regents. Hopefully they aren’t being overworked.

Closing the curtains, I yawned and headed back to bed. Angelica is already asleep, and I don’t really feel like moving her to her hiding spot. I doubt anyone is going to be coming here anyways… Laying on my bed, I closed my eyes. The Regents told me to take some time off so I guess I’ll do that… Maybe I should visit Charlotte…?

“Man that was wild!” I couldn’t help but say.

After so long, my spirit was finally freed from the accursed prison! Not only that, but I got to see a dragon as well! What a thing that thing was. Turning to the goddess, I couldn’t help but comment.

“I didn't know that there were like dragons here.” I said. “Since like when did we have those?”

The goddess however didn’t share my enthusiasm. She was like really bummed out. Her face was in her hands and she like looked like she was about to cry. I know that dragons were bad, but like that magical girl already beat them. Also, since when did we have those? How’d she like even get here? I didn’t know that outside gods even knew about this pce.

“We didn’t…” The goddess said, hands covering her face. “We shouldn’t…”

  “Is that like… bad…?” I asked.

Surely it isn’t like that bad…?

  “It’s bad…” She muttered.

  “Like how bad?” I asked.

“We need to get rid of her.”

  “Wait, what?”

“She’s going to destroy the world. We need to get rid of her!”

How can such a small girl destroy the world? Also, isn’t that the demon lord’s job?

“It can’t be that bad, right?” I asked.

“It’s that bad!” She said. “She’s been influencing the world and things have gotten so bad!”

  Uh-oh. Maybe this is bad…?

“The moment she was born!” She said. “I should have gotten rid of her then! But I was too busy fixing the damage! Do you know how many outsiders got into this world because of her!?”

  “Um-” I started.

“Fifteen!” She shouted. “Fifteen outsiders! I got rid of as many as I could, but they're still running around! And because of them, a clutch of dragon eggs came! Only a few of them hatched, but they still hatched! We have dragons! Baby dragons but dragons nonetheless! Do you know how bad that is!?”

  “Pretty bad…” I nodded.

They were taken care of pretty easily, but I like didn’t want to disagree with the person who can undo me in an instant.

“Okay…” I said. “So why not just like vaporize her or something?”

“You don’t think I tried that!?” She raged. “Whatever god that granted her that form made her far too powerful! I have to settle for changing small things in my own world! Those stupid Earth gods! Always messing things up! Just leave me and my world alone!”

You know, that attitude is why you don’t have any friends. Why not chill out?

“Oh yeah!?” She gred at me. “This friendless loser is chill enough!”

Right, she can read minds. Also I didn’t call you a loser, just friendless.

“I’ll turn you into a worm for a thousand years!” She said.

“You’ve already done that one.” I said.

  “Like I care!” She raged.

Man, she’s like really stressed. Maybe she should have a beer or something.

“I’m not going to drink beer that stuff is nasty!” She was almost crying.

“Okay, how about some wine?” I offered.

“Yes please!” She said, teary eyed.

Just another day in the life of a Lagainu…
