The First Words

A few weeks had gone by and the morning sunlight was shining on the hardwood floor on the ground. The city outside was finally waking up.

The woman who had not even slept for the entire night was cradling her baby brother in her arms who was warm, the only thing real in her world currently.

Her friend sat across the couch from her, holding a mug of coffee.

  [You slept at all?]

The woman murmured not looking up as she gently traced her fingers on the baby.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

  [I don't need to]

Her friend said without looking up from her scrolling on her phone.

[You’ve gotta rest sometime. I can take him for a bit—]

[No] she snapped her voice sharper than she intended.

[No. I’m fine. He… he sleeps better with me. I think he knows who I am.]

Her friend scrolling three reels at the same time said.

[I mean, yeah. You’re his sister. Of course he knows your scent Welcome to motherhood—well, kinda. Technically you’re just the big sister, but… you’re doing more than most moms already]

Suddenly the baby thought to himself.

Today is so boring. Let's troll my sister what can i do ……… oh that sounds interesting.

The baby focused his eyes and then it happened.

  [mommy.]
