80 - Blind Shot

The bus carrying Sophie was filled with a chorus of rumbling stomachs. Many hadn't eaten anything since yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday, Sophie had promised them a wolf carcass. But now, she claimed she couldn't get one, leaving everyone hungry.

They all knew they'd been played by Sophie, but they were too weak to retaliate.

It was their own fault, really.

If they hadn't been so disobedient, focusing on luring monsters to steal Bronze Chest, they wouldn't be starving now. Regret was too late.

Inside the bus, while everyone was lightheaded with hunger, a Middle-aged man kept sending messages in the Group Chat App.

Everyone else was too hungry to move, but he was constantly chatting, which seemed odd.

Someone next to him asked curiously, "Hey Monty, what are you doing? You're starving like the rest of us, but you still have the energy to chat? Don't let that girl see you, or she'll kick you off the bus."

The "girl" he was referring to was Sophie.

Just moments ago, Sophie had inexplicably kicked someone off the bus, leaving everyone puzzled.

Monty, annoyed by the interruption, replied casually, "I'm begging for food, leave me alone..."

  Begging for food?

The others nearby exchanged puzzled glances.

Soon, they were stunned. Monty suddenly produced a piece of jerky and ate it.

"Holy crap, Monty... you actually got food! Tell me who you begged from, I'll go ask too..."

If they could get food, they'd beg from the Group Chat App, would even recognize someone as Dad.

Monty rolled his eyes, swallowed the jerky, and then pulled out a cookie, making the others drool.

Realizing he was showing off, Monty quickly ate the cookie, afraid the others would snatch it.

The people around Monty started to give him nasty looks.

Monty, feeling a little better, explained, "I just sucked up to a RV owner. This is the food he gave me."

  Everyone was envious.

Sucking up to a RV owner wasn't easy.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

They couldn't help but think of Sophie, who had become powerful and taken over the bus after sucking up to some big shot.

Some had tried to imitate Sophie, trying to suck up to a RV owner in the Group Chat App, but no one paid them any attention.

Monty, seeing their disappointed expressions, glanced at Sophie in the back corner of the bus.

He was getting jerky and cookie because of Sophie, or rather, because of her crossbow.

Monty had told an RV owner that there was a crossbow on their bus.

The RV owner, wanting a ranged weapon, offered Monty food in exchange for the crossbow.

They secretly agreed that Monty would kill Sophie and take the crossbow to sell to the RV owner.

The RV owner would give Monty a weapon: a Goblin bone dagger.

It wasn't very sharp, but it could still be deadly.

With the dagger, Monty had a chance to kill Sophie, but she still had the upper hand.

Sophie was incredibly strong and fast, she could beat everyone on the bus.

Plus, she had a crossbow. Trying to take it head-on would be suicide.

Of course, that didn't mean Monty couldn't find a way to kill a little girl.

Monty had been in plenty of fights when he was younger and knew that if you're weaker than your opponent, you had to resort to dirty tricks.

Like throwing sand in their eyes...

Monty was sure he could take her down if he suddenly threw a handful of sand.

  Too bad.

Sophie was gorgeous. He hated to kill such a beautiful woman, but he will enjoy her body first…

Monty didn't tell anyone his plan. He got up and walked towards Sophie.

His left hand was in his pocket, clutching a handful of sand, and his right hand held the bone dagger. He approached Sophie with a smile.

Sophie was eagerly waiting for Jason to pick her up. Seeing a man approaching her, she immediately became alert.

  "Stop, don't come any closer!"

Sophie was wary and immediately aimed her crossbow at Monty.

It was no wonder Sophie was so cautious. Monty seemed up to no good.

  Monty was stunned.

He didn't expect the girl to be so alert, not giving him a chance to get close.

Monty had no choice but to keep approaching Sophie, while the others on the bus watched curiously.

To lower Sophie's guard, Monty explained that he wanted to talk about food, while slowly moving closer.

Sophie sensed something was wrong and threatened, "If you come any closer, I'll shoot!"

Monty didn't back down. He took another step and suddenly threw a handful of sand.

Sophie didn't expect him to throw sand and was blinded.

Monty was overjoyed, dodging the crossbow's aim, pulling out the bone dagger, and rushing towards Sophie.

Sophie panicked, fumbled with the crossbow, and fired wildly.

*Thwack* Sophie felt something warm spray on her body, followed by a thud. Someone had fallen in front of her.

  The bus erupted in screams.

Someone was saying that someone had been killed, that Monty was dead.

Sophie's heart raced. Her eyes watered from the sand, and she slowly opened them.

What she saw made her pupils constrict.

She was surrounded by blood, and Monty lay motionless on the ground.

The arrow she had fired wildly had accidentally pierced Monty's neck, saving her life.

If the arrow hadn't hit Monty, Sophie might be dead.

But Sophie couldn't accept that she had killed someone. She trembled, tears streaming down her face.

The others on the bus were afraid to approach Sophie, whispering amongst themselves.

Some condemned Monty for picking a fight with Sophie, ruining things for everyone.

Others were already considering leaving the bus and seeking refuge elsewhere.

The bus drove for another ten minutes and then stopped.

  Everyone looked outside in confusion.

Three people were waiting for the bus: Jason, Lily, and Tiffany.

As they boarded the bus, some immediately asked Jason if he was an RV owner and if he was looking to recruit followers.

Jason didn't answer. He noticed Sophie sitting in the back of the bus, covered in blood, sobbing.
