82 - The Pursuers Arrive!

Jason and the girls grabbed a quick bite, then hopped in the RV to hunt down more chests.

The three newest additions, Lily, Tiffany, and Sophie weren't exactly powerhouses yet, so Jason didn't want them fighting. He told them to hit the showers and relax.

They didn't argue, they were desperate for a shower.

"Hey, Chloe, is that a bed?" Lily asked, pointing at two king-sized mattresses pushed together.

Of course, Lily knew it was beds. What she really meant was: are we all going to be crammed in here together?

Everyone would know my A-Rank is compromised.

Chloe grinned. "Yep, they're beds. But they're special, souped-up beds that restore your Physique, Spirit, and heal you."

"You guys have been roughing it on that bus, right? Crash here after your shower, catch some Z's."

The girls were totally on board. Even Lily, despite her concerns, didn't want to say no.

They were beat. Felt like they'd been on a non-stop, hard-seat train ride for days. They desperately wanted to sink into a comfy mattress.

Sophie, especially. Unlike Lily and Tiffany, who could watch each other's backs, Sophie hadn't slept soundly for days, always on edge, looking pale and tired.

Chloe led them to the bathroom, even snagged them fresh pajamas. Then, she joined Jason in the driver's seat.

Meanwhile, Jenna, Ellie, and Kira were whipping up a massive dinner in the kitchen.

The RV cruised on… they snagged a couple more chests easily with Chloe's help, and the afternoon was moving on, it was after 2 pm when they heard a ding! Pursuer mode: Engaged! One hour to escape. No fuel consumption.

Jason was ready. The instant he heard the system, he floored the gas pedal, the RV engine roaring into gear

At the same time, three beams of light crashed down behind the RV, solidifying into three heavily modified cargo trucks.

These weren't your average trucks. The front ends sported massive, spiked bumper meant to do damage, clear signs they were built for ramming.

Vrooom! The engines roared to life, and the trucks gave chase.

Jason's quick reaction had given him a head start, so the trucks weren't right on their tail.

  Inside the RV.

Jason glanced in the rearview mirror and his face paled. This was not good.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The number of pursuers was random, and three cargo trucks meant he'd drawn a short straw.

Each truck carried a D+ rank demihuman pursuer.

Three trucks equaled three D+ level psychos coming after them, his Shadow Doppelganger wouldn’t get him out of that one. There was nothing for him to do but slam on the gas and outrun them.

Chloe, in the passenger seat, saw the trucks closing and gasped.

She wasn't sure exactly how dangerous these pursuers were, but the sight of three tricked-out trucks meant their RV wouldn't stand a chance in a collision.

"Hubby, should I blast them with Spiritual Shock?" Chloe asked worriedly.

Jason shook his head. "Not yet. Conserve your Spirit for the crucial moment."

Chloe's Spiritual Shock could be a game-changer, Jason wasn't wasting it.

Just then, Ellie peeked in from the back. "Jason, what's the deal with those trucks? What can we do?"

The other girls huddled around the door, anxious to help.

Jason didn't need them in the fight yet, but he told them to prep their crossbows. If things got desperate, they'd need to join the fray.

Ellie nodded, and the girls prepped. Even pursuers would think twice before trying to shrug off a volley of crossbow bolts.

Jason paused, thinking, then told Ellie a few quick instructions.

Chloe and Ellie were grinning. They hadn't realized Jason had a trick up his sleeve.

If it worked, the pursuers wouldn't have a chance.

All across the landscape, Jason and the crew weren't the only ones trying to evade; cars of all descriptions tore down the highways with all sorts of trucks and contraptions hard on their tails.

Some got lucky, hounded by one single, beat-up pickup.

Others got screwed over like Jason, with three ramped-up semi-trucks tearing after him.

No one was dumb enough to throw the RV into park and fistfight the pursuers.

The accelerator pedals hit the floor, no fuel consumed.

Jason risked a glance in the rearview mirror. The trucks were closing, but the RV had a chance.

The RV wasn’t slow - Jason installed a 0-Star engine upgrade giving the machine 75mph maximum speeds

The new breed of hunter trucks did not start with a natural top end speed advantage. It became a game of speed now.

Jason glared down the road ahead, eyes like lasers. It was all about paying attention.

All three of the trailer trucks still maintained solid ground on the tail.

Suddenly Jason saw a gold shimmer far off at a patch of road - obviously, not normal pavement.

He angled his course towards that strip as a sign of his anticipation to go much faster

Whoosh!!! An unimaginable push forced Chloe back into the seats!

The vehicles clocked a max instantaneous speed of nearly 120mph!!

“Argh!!!!! What just happened!? RV just teleported or something!!!!” - Jason barely heard anything the ladies asked with such massive g-forces being inflicted.

The lady in the front now understood more like that driving simulator they played as girls!

Jason, laser-focused on the road in front, kept silent.

That sudden speed boost demanded an increased workload.

Again, the 3 monster semi trucks mirrored course over the gold shimmering ground,

These bursts had only temporary benefits; but each machine slowly lost steam and returned closer to base nominals…

Again and again the asphalt turned serpentine ahead!

They no longer had advantage in their rear, it was now very up close.

And the Semi’s mirrored action had very much an angle too…

Truck to truck physical contests broke up as these large masses came to tight corners -

The inner portion of RV got all their attention by Eleanor again-

Just at that instant… one particular trailer vehicle managed by skill and some luck had managed to get on top.

Seeing how quick one bad accident in driving, that fast semi was making…Elie looked with eyes of ‘this time for the switch up!" - the mini cute bad*** inside lit up just like so!

That’s exactly when Eleanor received a transmission and tapped onto one app button to enable drops and spawns

A Simmons Double Bed appeared right from no where, as she clicked this option

Now there would be zero hope of evading that newly appeared obstacle!!

  "It worked!" Elie exclaimed
