Picking up my phone, I saw that it was a call from my fathers personal secretary. KI did not want to take the call as I felt he was probably calling to convince me to take my fathers side, Mr. Lee has known me since I was little and was like family. Normally I would fulfil any of his request but even though brother Hanbing has betrayed my trust, I still did not want to marry someone I did not know, I can't tell if its just my pride not allowing me to give in and admit that I was wrong.
I answered the call and he asked me, 'Where are you young miss.' He sounded panicked and flustered which surprised me because he always had everything planned out and was never surprised. 'I am at the beach, is anything wrong?' 'Come to First City Hospital, your grandfather collapsed and is in the ICU right now.' My heart skipped a beat at what he said and I felt a cold rush taking over me, I immediately got up and rushed to my car before driving to the hospital.
Nothing should happen to my grandfather, he is all I had, I can't be alone in this world. How would I cope without his silent presence in my life, I really regret quarreling with him, I even refused to eat with him, and for what, a man that was cheating on me with my best friend. I am such a fool, I should have checked if he was eating properly or taking his monthly checkup regularly. He always seemed so larger than life and nothing could shake him but how can he be sick and admitted into the hospital, I can't lose him, I just can't.
I ran into the hospital as soon as I parked the car and found Mr. Lee waiting for me, 'Where is he?' I asked as soon as I reached him. 'He has been moved to the V.I.P room, the doctors said he can receive visitors now but he has not woken up yet.' I followed him to the hospital room and found my grandfather lying on the bed and he looked so frail and old, I have never seen him like that before and it scared me to my bones. I stood by the door looking at him as tears fell down my eyes quietly, I did not have the courage to walk toward him. I heard footsteps behind me and turned to see a man in a doctors coat walking towards me, 'Are you his guardian.' he asked me and I nodded my head, that's when I realized that I am his guardian just like he is mine. I should be taking care of him just like he does for me but I never really paid attention to this fact.
'He had a heart attack but it was a mild one, the prompt response of his staff saved his life and stopped it from being serious. But he should still be verry careful and follow the plan I am going to write up for him, and try not to agitate him if you can. He does not need any more stress right now.' I gave a nod in reply and took the report he handed to me while standing there quietly.

'Young miss can I speak to you for a moment.' Mr. Lee asked me and I followed him and sat on the chair by the passage. 'Your grandfather told me what is happening and you know when in doubt he always seeks my opinion before making a decision. I do not want to blame you young miss but you know your grandfather would never hurt you, did you not consider that there may be various factors in place that caused him to decide that he does not want you to marry Hanbing. I do not know the full picture but a few months after he asked you out your father did an investigation on him and his motives, although he did not disclose the findings to me, he started planning your engagement then. And also, I know the Lu group has been putting things in place to takeover some of our subsidiaries and businesses. Your grandfather scrutinized your fiancé thoroughly before selecting him for you, can you not trust his choice and wisdom.'
I kept quiet and just absorbed everything he told me, I could guess what my grandfather had discovered from what I now know and why he did not want to tell me. He would rather play the bad guy than have me be hurt and start doubting my choices. 'I understand Mr. Lee, I am going to trust my grandfather's plans for me.' he gave me a firm nod and a tap on the shoulder while saying as he left, 'I should head to the office and ensure this news does not leak so that the vultures hanging around do not take advantage of it.'
He walked away and I went back into the room, I sat down by my grandfathers side and held his hands as I quietly wait for him to wake up. I must have fallen asleep because I felt someone's hands on my hair and raised my head to find my grandfather awake running his hand through my hair as I had laid my head on his bed. 'Grandpa you are awake, do you need anything.' I quickly held his hand and sat up to properly look at him with tears in my eyes. 'A cup of water please.' I got him water from the dispenser with a straw in the cup so he could easily have a sip, when he was done i held his hands and sat close to me. 'You scared me grandpa, don't scare me like that again, I will do what you want and marry your friends son. Just don't fall sick okay.'
'I am sorry it seemed like I was forcing you to do what I want, if you don't want to marry him I wont force you to, this is why I want you guys to be engaged first and see if you are compatible. If not then the engagement can be broken, but if you don't want to then there is no need for you to do so.' he said while smiling and holding my hand
'I do, I will get engaged to him, am sorry for not listening to you.' I said while crying and laying my head on his arms on the bed. He pat my head with his other hand while saying, 'Don't cry, I never want to see you cry. I am not mad at you and I am happy you have agreed to me so stop crying.' I just laid my head in the comfort of his arm grateful that he was alive and did not know when I dozed off.
