  Before Humanity, before the universe, before there was light and dark, before anything, we find the creation of the gods. A multitude of formless, massless, silent entities existing within the nothingness. Doing nothing, unaware of their own existence, there was no existing yet.

  The entities began to suddenly start devouring the nothingness, not for sustenance and not for reason. It just began to happen, one started and they all began to do it. These entities had enough of what we’d consider cosmic power to develop a simple consciousness as they devoured more nothingness. The more they consumed the more matter they created as a byproduct of the process. As these cycles continued the matter they created became increasingly complex. With this complex matter creation, the entities had to consume more and more of the nothingness at even greater rates than previously.

  At some point the entities realized they had inadvertently consumed all nothingness, and it no longer existed. Only a primordial universe sat where the nothingness once existed. The entities having developed the first form of consciousness decided to play with the matter and see if they could keep their newfound boredom at bay. When one began to do this they all did, the boredom was the only pain they ever experienced. They created things all across the universe until one day they grew bored with this as well.

  One entity came up with an idea, they should show off their creations by combining them into one creation. The other entities were willing to try anything to stave off the boredom they all feared. They convened in a dusty part of the universe and began to show off their creations to each other. They spent a long time sculpting their project and when they finished the end result was one of a kind. A small solar system, with a creature unlike anything previously created, they called it mankind. Earth was officially born, and the entities took much joy with it. Earth received the honor of being the only project all the entities ever collaborated on, and it would be unique because of that as well.

  When man spoke his first words while looking at the sky, he said, “God.” Thus, the Gods were born on this day. The gods reveled in their creation, and they celebrated an amazing achievement. The day gods were born, so to was born jealousy. Man did not know his Gods, therefore he created his own to fill the emptiness that he felt without knowing them. The gods couldn’t stand the way humans worshipped these imposters. They decided to wrap themselves in flesh and visit the earth. This was the day that violence was born. Once the gods walked with man, the other gods felt the jealousy well up within and one god out of the millions, stabbed another with an enchanted piece of sharpened bronze. The god fell dead and the now deceased god’s followers bowed to the victorious god. The other gods saw this action, and they all began to do the same.

  The gods grew increasingly more vicious in their attacks, they all wanted to claim earth as their own. It wasn’t boring, they all added something to it, they all felt they deserved to claim it. This continued for tens of thousands of years until one god facing total defeat had a new idea. The god used all its power and caused a mighty flood to ravage the lands, if the god couldn’t have it then no one would claim the prize. This god almost succeeded in destroying the earth completely, except a handful of humanity and other species. The other gods gathered to destroy the god that flooded the world, though they all still wanted to claim it for their own.

  Once the rogue god had been vanquished they looked at their prize, it was almost completely wiped out from the gods and their jealousy. They still couldn’t agree on who should care for the humans, so they compromised. A tournament would be held 11,500 years later. Enough time to give the world a chance to come back from the brink, and it was agreed that they wouldn’t intervene until that time. They created a set of rules, designated checks and balances, and the gods gave mankind and the other species that survived a garden from which to take back the earth. Then the gods went to sleep, it was the only way to allow humanity to survive and let the gods try again. It had taken all the gods to create this, and they were not all in existence anymore, this meant they must allow the earth a chance to rebuild. They would never be able to recreate it without all of them in existence, and their jealousy had ruined that option already.

  The gods would sleep for 11,000 years, get 500 years to get their bearings or finally wake up, their memories would be taken, and they would compete at a less godly level. These were the terms of the tournament. They all accepted these and the gods left humanity for over eleven millennium. That is until the first one woke in 1524 and the last woke in 2024, now the story of the gods continues into a world that forgot what it once knew. The gods have come to fight for their right to lay claim to the greatest creation they made. Humanity tried to remember, but with their incomparable lifespans they soon forgot, the world’s history fell to myth and legend.
