Chapter 44: Attendant
“No. But I think you just got yourself a caretaker, or should we call her an attendant?” Ms. Silver spoke while looking at Ms. Red Flag up and down.
Red Flag and Shade became speech less. A silent moment passed until Shade opened his mouth to speak.
“An attendant? What is that and why?”
Red Flag started to glare at Shade. She thought him rude for speaking to Ms. Silver like that. However, Shade did not notice.
“An attendant is simply put a servant. Squires used to be the attend to knights in a history past. I heard some stories from some of the oldest saints that used to have squires. Apparently, this is how it went when they received one.” Ms. Silver spoke while touching her chin.
“What do I do with her?” Shade asked in confusion.
“Nothing special, really. Make her do some errands, help with paperwork, and have her follow you on missions. She is to sleep here in the temple, and her meals will be taken care of by Olivia and Andrew. There is nothing for you to worry about.” Ms. Silver said calmly.
After bidding their farewells to Ms. Silver. Shade and Red Flag spent some time sparring. While sparring, they got to know each other. Unknown to Shade, Red Flag had quickly gotten used to being an attendant.
While Red Flag was a bit bothered about the fact that she became the attendant to an Entity Invoker with less spirit characteristics than her, after sparring, she noticed that she was actually weaker than Shade in combat.
She was stronger, faster, and capable of shooting fire from her hands, but she still lost to Shade’s illusions.
Specter’s reaction to Red Flag becoming Shade’s attendant was ridiculous. He couldn’t stop laughing until Ms. Snow sent him flying into the temple waters. Everyone else were either a bit worried or simply surprised.
Ms. Astral gave Red Flag 2 blood vials and told her to forcefully feed Shade whenever he “forgets”.
…
It has been one week since the attack on the Northern Silver Moon Branch. Rouge has ordered everyone to be careful. He cut connection with the police for the time being because they have mystics and believers of the church of fire and flame.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Mr. Rouge thought that it was too unsafe to continue with their usual schedule of patrols and commissions. At the moment, only Rouge, Zephyr, and Astral were allowed to go out of the temple and investigate the city.
Rouge went and checked on the northern silver moon branch. He found that the building was scorched black and he managed to recover the body of the now dead quasi-saint captain.
The body was preserved because of the spirituality left in the body. After returning to the temple, the body was lowered in the temple waters by Red Flag.
The goddess sent an image of herself as she made the silver fishes surround the corps and eat it up within seconds, leaving nothing behind. This was the Silver Moon’s funeral ceremony for its mystics.
Judgement explained the whole prosses for the unaware Shade… We lower our dead in the temple water blessed by the goddess because of the risk that there could be human characteristics in the body. You already know that blessing are human characteristics, this is where they come from if not directly from the goddess. Remember it well.
Shade nodded slightly. While neither Shade nor Judgement knew the dead mystic, Judgements emotions from remembering the fallen from his time affected Shade as well.
…
After the funeral ceremony. Shade noticed that Red Flag was quietly following him from behind as he walked towards the training grounds.
“Red Flag, are you alright?” Shade asked carefully.
“Huh? Ah, yes. I… I am fine. I didn’t know him for long.” Red Flag sounded downhearted.
She had known the quasi-saint, for less than a year. But that was more than enough time for anyone to become sad of the other’s passing.
Shade thought deeply about what to say, but he suddenly noticed that the look in Red Flag’s eyes changed. She had thought deeply about what to do next.
She decided to trust in the Silver Moon and serve the young mystic whose face she can’t fully see with absolute diligence.
Shade remained quiet and the two of them started practice their shooting skills in the shooting range.
…
“Do you remember when I made Red Flag your attendant?” A female ethereal voice said.
“Of course, I was really surprised at the time. Confused even. I never asked why you made her my attendant. Can you enlighten me on that matter, My Lady?” The reminiscing man asked with an ethereal voice.
The two gods were speaking with each other from distances unknown. The goddess laughed slightly.
“I made a divination through fate the day she arrived in your branch temple. What I saw through that divination was her tending to you while calling you, young master.
Fate changes each second, I am not usually one to act upon the first divination through fate. However, I felt something special through that specific scene.
I took a chance and here we are. She proved herself useful to you did she not?” The goddess spoke while watching her believers through an ethereal mirror.
The reminiscing man thought for a moment, then smiled.
“I have much gratitude for what she has done for me. Of course, I have just as much gratitude for what you have done for me too, if not more. I thank you, My Lady.” The reminiscing man spoke with calm and warmth.
