225. Video Call (Book Four)

No while Rick was getting his Goblins and all their future plans in order. The old man wasn’t finished with all his business. After meeting with his grandson and going back to his floating mountain, he himself called for a meeting, but it would not be held in person. It would be held using something far more advanced than the communication discs the Goblins were familiar with.

A video call was set up between himself and three other people. One of them was elvish in nature and a man. The other was a woman whose face was covered by a veil and none of her features could quite be seen. The last was another man, only he had very fierce, draconic features, and he entered the meeting with a scowl.

“This better be fucking worth it.”

“I see your language is still as rotten as your personality, but unfortunately for you this is worth it. Mir has woken up.”

That caused both the draconic man and the woman hidden behind the veil to perk up and pay attention to the words of the old man. The Elvish man not showing a reaction one way or the other.

“Not only has Mir woken up, but it has taken significant interest in a Goblin. Not just any Goblin, but a Goblin King verified by myself. This Goblin King is already of the Seventh Tier and now it is under Mir’s protection. There’s a real chance it will grow to reach above the Seventh Tier and I cannot allow it.

“I’m convening this meeting because I need your assistance before this gets out of hand. I would like for you all to join me in getting rid of this Goblin King. Obviously the king himself is of no consequence, but it will take all four of us to hold Mir back while others get rid of the King while he is still of inconsequential strength.”

Silence reigned in the meeting for a few moments as the old man’s words took time to settle within the minds of those who were listening. Of course, with their level of strength they didn’t need long to understand what was said. Instead, there were likely a million different scenarios being played out from start to finish within their minds, or so one might assume.

It was the man with draconic features who spoke up first.

“I said this better be fucking worth it and this is far from it. The only reason I helped you bastards seal Mir all those years ago was because I owed you a favor. That favor has been fucking paid. I do not run from a battle. I do not shy away from problems. If someone wants to fight me then I welcome it. You and your pitiful cause…this wish of order and safety on the continent, your continent, I might add, has nothing to do with me or mine. If Mir wants to come find me then I beg that it does. If this Goblin wants to set foot on my lands in a war with my people then we will welcome that too. Unlike you, we are not cowards and we embrace war and all its beauty. Do not call me again.”

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

And with that the man disappeared from the video call, leaving only a frowning old man and a woman still hidden behind a veil, and quiet Elvish man who had yet to utter a word.

Then the woman spoke up. A melodious voice that sounded it was made purely sooth the heart and soul of others could be heard by the old man.

“Will you allow my church to spread amongst your people?”

The frown on the old man’s face deepened at that comment.

“You think something as great and dire as this should be negotiated?”

“Everything should be negotiated on. You know that. So answer my question. Will you allow my church to spread across your continent? And do not play games with me. You know exactly what I mean by spread.”

The man glared at the woman behind the veil.

“You and that blasted fool will both regret this. Allowing a Goblin King to reach our station is going to be the doom of your people.”

“No, Karion. It will be the doom of your people on your continent. I bid you farewell.”

And with that the woman left the video call as well.

Now all that was left was the Elvish man who had not said a word nor reacted to a single thing was said on the call.

The old man, known as Karion, looked at him impassively for a few moments before asking a question.

“Are you not going to say anything here? Aren’t you known as the Sage of the Wild amongst your people? Is allowing a Goblin King to rise to power apart of your Sage-like wisdom?”

Of course, there was still not a single reaction on the face of the Elvish man.

“This is apparently your continent yes? I believe my people have bled enough for it.”

That was the only thing the Elvish Sage said before he too left the call.

The old man sat on his floating mountain in silence. Then the mountain started to shake for a brief moment before it stopped. The man quickly reined in his temper before his favorite abode was destroyed.

“Tch. That brat better not fail a second time…

“It’s a shame his talent and fortune wasn’t present within his father.

“Dying before reaching the Seventh Tier. What a pitiful son of mine he was. Tch.”

Now while the Karion brooded by himself atop his massive floating mountain, the Elven man known as the Sage of the Wild, passed a singular order throughout the entirety of Demi-human controlled lands on the continent.

He wasn’t the sole decision maker for Demi-humans, but he rarely ever demanded anything and his wisdom had them kept them afloat for millennia, so when he asked of something, it was rarely ever fought back against.

Even when it was as confusing as his latest order was.

“From this day forth Goblins are no longer to be hunted within Demi-human lands. If possible, it is encouraged to build good relations with them.”

And while most would not ever extend any form of olive branch to Goblins especially not after the war that was just had, but at minimum there would be no more killing.

Though…there would be a few…a very small few…who wouldn’t mind giving it a try…even if it was in secret.
