B5 | Chapter 38

  Alexia

The twenty-two Ascendant Tiers continue to chase me for days on end. And there are actually a few times they manage to get me out of the Quantum Realm, at which point I feel genuine danger.

But unlike me, who can pull on power from the Quantum Realm from anywhere, even if it’s nowhere near as efficient outside of the Quantum Realm, these people have limited energy tanks. Or mana tanks, technically. Since energy is generally limited to mostly just quantum beings.

And since their mana tanks are so limited, I end up getting to take a breather sometimes as they eventually switch their strategy around to take turns chasing me.

Splitting up their numbers into three fourths of them chasing me at any moment while the last fourth rests.

Which takes a lot of the pressure on me. Especially when the space worm ends up taking a break. Because that always lets me get right back into the Quantum Realm to build distance between myself and them.

And that’s the most important thing.

I’ve realized early on that I can’t do shit to them. At all.

I tried to attack one of them after separating them from the others for a brief period of time, but my attacks barely did anything to them.

Such is the vast difference between a Tier 5 and an Ascendant Tier.

So much more vast than the difference between the other Tiers. To the point that they’re practically gods in a way.

Of course, I had to undo my transformation to attack. Which was a massive drop in my power.

And after realizing I couldn’t do shit to him, I transformed again and fled mere moments before the others arrived.

  One hour after another.

  One day after another.

For an entire two weeks, I continue to flee as they take turns chasing me. Feeling more and more exhausted the longer the farce drags on.

Because, even if I can revert my body, I still feel fatigue building up. Both mental and physical.

But I continue to push myself regardless.

  I don’t have a choice after all. If I don’t push myself, I’ll die.

  And I’d rather avoid dying.

What’s even worse are the gazes I feel locked onto me throughout this process. Numerous different Quantum Beings just sitting back and watching without doing anything.

Not that I can really blame them. They can’t do anything, just like I can’t attack or defend myself from these Ascendants attacks with my True Form.

Otherwise the universe would punish them just like it would punish me.

Even my mother can’t do anything now that she’s a quantum being as well. In the eyes of the universe, at least.

Not that she’d manage to do a lot anyway since she isn’t an Ascendant Tier either.

Although I’m pretty sure she’s stronger than me even without being an Ascendant Tier. And she’s pushing towards becoming one at the very least.

Pushing even harder now that I’m in danger. Since she can only help me after becoming one.

When she’ll be strong enough to fight other Ascendants without the help of her powers as a quantum being.

On top of her, I receive messages from friends and family talking about how they’re currently pushing to become Ascendants as well. With a lot of them telling me to just hang on for a little longer.

But by the time another week passes, leaving me about a week or so away from reaching level fifty in Quantum Displacement, no one else has arrived yet. No one is here to help.

And no matter how much they say they’re extremely close to finishing their own requirements, close doesn’t cut it as the twenty-two Ascendant Tiers all suddenly rush forward together with various items activated and finally manage to trap me in some sort of spatial distortion outside of the Quantum Realm.

I grit my teeth as the twenty-two Ascendant Tiers all show various levels of fatigue, with some of them looking like they even used skills or items with pretty harsh drawbacks. Considering how regretful they look.

But they also look a little smug as they lock me in here.

Until they realize I can still draw some energy through the cracks from the Quantum Realm. Which only takes them launching thousands of volleys of attacks at me at once to find out. When I dodge most of the attacks and reverse the damage from the attacks that do hit without anywhere near as much of an energy problem as they probably thought I’d have.

Still. I find my energy tank finally decreasing even with all the energy I’m pulling from the Quantum Realm.

Because of their seal, I can barely draw a fraction of what I drew before. And I can’t go back into the Quantum Realm either.

If this keeps up, I will eventually run out of energy.

The only bright side is that their relentless onslaught of attacks over the past few weeks has raised Quantum Adaptation’s level quite a bit as well. Not to mention given me numerous new adaptations that have pretty much maxed out in benefits now.

Making their attacks do quite a bit less damage to me now than they did at the start.

But even with that, if I run out of energy, I’m done for.

I grit my teeth as I teleport over and over again all around the sphere within the seal. Feeling regretful as I look between my scythe and the seal itself.

Because I just instinctively know that if I were to use my scythe to open the seal on my own, it would be considered using it against the mortals, and I would be punished for it.

That can only be a last resort.

I grit my teeth at the thought.

Getting punished should be better than dying at the very least.

Several more hours pass as I get closer and closer to depleting my energy, and when I’m finally beginning to consider breaking the universe’s rules, something happens.

I feel a wave of power flooding across the universe even within this sealed area.

  As someone reaches Ascendant Tier.

“I’m coming, Lexi,” I hear Mom’s voice echo in my head before mere seconds later the seal around us shatters and I see her floating in the sky looking enraged as hell at the Ascendants attacking me.
