The familiar hum of the house settled around me as I stood in the living room, Valerie and Asia sitting on the couch while my new familiar, the succubus, leaned casually against the wall. Her presence was impossible to ignore—her sultry aura seemed to fill the room, and her pyful smirk was already making me regret my life choices. Espeon was curled up on the floor, his tail flicking zily as he watched the scene unfold with what I could only assume was feline judgment.
"Alright," I said, cpping my hands together to get everyone's attention. The sharp cp echoed through the room, and all eyes turned to me. "Time for introductions. Valerie, Asia, this is… uh…" I paused, realizing I didn't actually know her name. My brain scrambled for a moment, but all I could come up with was "that succubus who won't stop smirking." "Wait, what's your name again?"
The succubus blinked, her pyful smile faltering for a moment. She pced a hand on her hip, her other hand gesturing dramatically to herself. "You… don't know my name?"
Valerie and Asia sweatdropped, their expressions a mix of disbelief and secondhand embarrassment. Asia's cheeks flushed as she fidgeted with the hem of her dress, while Valerie crossed her arms, her crimson eyes narrowing slightly. "Kazuya," Asia said softly, her voice tinged with concern, "she's your familiar. Shouldn't you know her name?"
I scratched the back of my head, grinning sheepishly. "Yeah, well, things got a little hectic back there. So, what is it?"
The succubus sighed, shaking her head. Her long blonde hair swayed with the motion, catching the light in a way that was almost annoyingly perfect. "It's Lilith. And yes, I'm a succubus. Pleasure to meet you all."
"Lilith, huh?" I said, nodding. "Nice name. Fits you."
Valerie raised an eyebrow, her crimson eyes narrowing slightly. She leaned forward, her elbows resting on her knees as she studied Lilith with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. "And you're sure she's… trustworthy?"
I shrugged, shoving my hands into my pockets. "She's bound to me by a familiar contract. She can't betray me even if she wanted to. Besides, she's going to be helping you two."
Asia tilted her head, her blue eyes wide with curiosity. She clutched the magic book I'd handed her tightly, her fingers tracing the embossed title on the cover. "Helping us? With what?"
"Magic," I said, pulling out a couple of thick, dusty books from a bag and handing them to Valerie and Asia. The thud of the books hitting the coffee table made Espeon's ears twitch. "These are magic books for humans. Rias gave them to me. You're both going to train under Lilith and learn how to use magic properly."
Valerie flipped through the book, her expression skeptical. Her sharp nails tapped against the pages as she scanned the contents. "Magic? For humans? Isn't that… rare?"
"It is," I said, nodding. "But not impossible. And with Lilith's guidance, you'll get the hang of it. Just take it seriously, okay? No goofing around."
Lilith smirked, her blindfolded gaze shifting to me. Her lips curled into a sultry smile as she stepped closer, her hips swaying with every movement. The click of her heels against the floor was deliberate, almost hypnotic. "And what about you, Master? Aren't you going to join us? I promise I'll make it… enjoyable."
I rolled my eyes, though I couldn't help the slight flush that crept up my neck. Why does she have to be like this? "Nice try, Lilith. But I've got my own training to do. Just focus on teaching these two."
She pouted, her lower lip jutting out in an exaggerated dispy of disappointment. "You're no fun, Master. But fine, I'll py along—for now."
Valerie and Asia exchanged a gnce, their cheeks turning slightly pink. "Kazuya!" Asia protested, her voice rising an octave. "What kind of person do you think we are?"
I held up my hands in mock surrender. "Hey, I'm just saying. She's a succubus. Better to set some ground rules early."
Lilith giggled, her voice dripping with amusement. She leaned against the wall, her arms crossed as she tilted her head pyfully. "Oh, don't worry, Master. I'll be on my best behavior." She turned to Valerie and Asia, her smile turning mischievous. "Well, mostly."
Valerie uncrossed her arms, her expression wary. She stood up, her posture stiff as she faced Lilith. "I don't like this. She's… too pyful."
Lilith stepped closer to Valerie, her movements smooth and deliberate. She leaned in, her voice low and teasing. "Oh, don't be like that, little vampire. I promise I won't bite… much."
Valerie's eyes widened, and she took a step back, her cheeks flushing. "W-What?!"
Asia giggled nervously, clutching the magic book to her chest. "Um, maybe we should just focus on the training?"
Lilith straightened up, her smile softening. She reached out and patted Asia on the head, her touch surprisingly gentle. "Of course, dear. I'm just teasing. Now, come along. We have a lot of work to do."
She turned on her heel, her white robe fluttering as she headed toward the other room. Valerie and Asia hesitated for a moment before following, though Valerie shot me one st suspicious gnce over her shoulder.
"Kazuya," she said, her voice firm. "If she tries anything… weird, I'm holding you responsible."
I waved her off, grinning. "Don't worry, Valerie. She's all bark and no bite. Probably."
Lilith's ughter echoed from the other room. "Oh, Master, you wound me!"
I shook my head, chuckling as the three of them disappeared into the other room. Espeon let out a soft "Espi!" and trotted over to my side, his golden eyes watching me curiously.
"Yeah, I know," I said, scratching behind his ears. "She's a handful. But she'll keep them on their toes."
Once they were out of earshot, I turned my attention to the shadows. With a wave of my hand, I summoned fifteen shadow soldiers—the blood hounds I'd turned into shadows during my earlier encounter. They materialized in the room with a faint whoosh, their glowing eyes fixed on me as they awaited orders.
"Alright, listen up," I said, my voice firm. "Your job is to protect this house. Scatter around and keep watch. If anyone tries to harm Valerie or Asia, you take them down. Got it?"
The shadows nodded in unison, their forms flickering before they dispersed to their assigned positions. I watched them go, a sense of relief washing over me. At least I don't have to worry about surprise attacks now.
With the house secure, I finally allowed myself to rex—well, as much as I ever could. I sank into the couch, the soft creak of the leather echoing in the quiet room. My mind raced with thoughts of the Tepes faction and the dangers they posed. Valerie's Sacred Gear, Sephiroth Graal, was a double-edged sword. It gave her immense power, but it also made her a target for every faction out there.
I've got the Gremory faction on my side, I thought, running a hand through my hair. Well, Rias, at least. She's been generous, but I can't rely on her forever. I need to get stronger. For Valerie. For Asia. For everyone.
I stood up, my exhaustion momentarily forgotten as I summoned the gravity chamber capsule. It materialized in the middle of the room with a low hum, its sleek design glowing faintly. I stepped inside, the weight of the increased gravity pressing down on me almost immediately. The thud of my footsteps echoed in the confined space.
This'll do, I thought, summoning six clones of myself. Each one held Lostvayne, their expressions mirroring my determination. I cranked up the gravity to a level that made my muscles scream, and we began to train.
The first session was brutal. My clones and I pushed ourselves to the limit, our movements sharp and precise despite the crushing weight. The cng of swords cshing and the grunt of exertion filled the chamber. By the end of it, I was gasping for breath, my body drenched in sweat. I reached for a Senzu bean, popping it into my mouth and feeling my energy return almost instantly.
Not enough, I muttered, wiping the sweat from my brow. I need to be stronger.
The second session was even more intense. My clones and I sparred relentlessly, our swords cshing in a blur of motion. The gravity made every movement feel like wading through mosses, but I pushed through the pain. By the end of it, I was on my knees, my chest heaving as I struggled to catch my breath.
Still not enough.
The third session broke me. My clones dissipated one by one, their energy spent. I colpsed to the floor, my body trembling with exhaustion. I reached for another Senzu bean, my hand shaking as I brought it to my lips.
Not… enough…
I y there for a moment, staring up at the ceiling of the gravity chamber. My mind was a whirlwind of thoughts—Valerie, Asia, the Tepes faction, Rias, Lilith. So many people relying on me. So many dangers lurking in the shadows.
I can't afford to be weak, I thought, forcing myself to sit up. Not now. Not ever.
With a groan, I stood up and stepped out of the gravity chamber. The weight of responsibility pressed down on me just as heavily as the gravity had, but I knew I couldn't stop. Not until I was strong enough to protect everyone.
Not enough… but I'll get there.
