Silence ruled the ruined camp.
The moon hung gently above, illuminating the carnage below.
To the west of the camp, the trio of Cera, Jentra and the High Lady, stood stunned.
Even with their rather limited knowledge, they could tell that the sight they had just bore witness to was one for the century.
“Who… is he???” Jentra muttered under his breath, his barely audible words doing nothing to distill the thick silence.
His brain had refused to fully catch up to the latest events, somehow, still stuck at the moment Zain killed Philip. To which, even now, he still could not fully grasp ‘how.’
As the silence lived on, it was broken by none other than Thomas.
“You have more blood on you than even the Ancients.”
Thomas, who had previously retreated into the darkness, walked into eyeshot range. His gaze, completely fixed on Zain.
“I think I get why you were restricted.”
He continued without waiting for a response.
“In fact, I think I get why you were sent on this mission.”
Zain, after a few more seconds of staring at Racheal’s desecrating corpse, retrieved his sword and turned to look at him.
“They lost.” He said simply.
“How can you sense that far?” Thomas raised a brow. “I guess you should be able to… to be fair, we only hear of humans like you in legends.”
He paused.
“Even then, your skill set seems... You are different, I can tell, but alas, cannot prove it.”
“Do you think I can kill you before your reinforcement gets here?” Zain ignored Thomas's ramblings and asked.
“From what I have seen, you do not seem very strong, but you are. Extremely so.” Thomas in return ignored his question. He heaved a weary sigh. “Right now, I do not even feel like engaging you anymore.”
Zain turned his head to stare at Pedric’s pinned corpse a distance away.
“I am a vampire, you think I care much for such sentiment?” Thomas scoffed.
His twin longswords floated up higher and shifted to an attacking angle, both directed at Zain.
“The thing here is, I really have no choice. I have to kill the girl. Orders from the Bloodborn herself. So, do me a favor and die easy.”
The twin swords shot at Zain at breakneck speed.
“Hmm.” Zain shifted on his heels. His spectral energy spiralled into a frenzy as his eyes came Alive.
“I can see through…”
His sentence was left incomplete.
His spectral energy flooded into his gauntlet, dyeing its black fur blue, with it, he caught one of the swords by the blade.
The sword was held in place by the tremendous force generated in his arm.
The other sword though was never directed at him. It swerved right past him, shooting straight at the High Lady behind him.
Following its approach,
Cera and Jentra moved.
Jentra's eyes ignited with a dull gray spark as he moved to grab the High Lady out of the way.
Cera also reached out for the save. Her movement was fast, albeit too fast.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
The two aspiring heroes' movements clashed.
Hitting each other with more force than they could ever have thought the other could produce. They both fell to opposing sides and could only watch helplessly as the sword closed in on the Lady.
To their surprise though.
It stopped.
The fast approaching sword suddenly lost all its momentum and froze in place.
The falling duo were astounded by the phenomenon, their gaze glued to the sword as It stayed still, just in front of the Lady's forehead.
Despite the Lady's flustered face, there was not a single scratch on her from the attack. Even her beautiful blonde hair remained unruffled.
At that moment.
Cera's body hit the ground but she bounced back up immediately, her eyes snapping over to Zain's location. She felt that he was most likely the culprit, and she was right.
He had dealt with the sword attacking him and still managed to stop the other.
“With his gaze.” Cera was stunned.
His ability? The thought popped up in her head. But before she could fully grasp the idea, her eyes barely caught it.
Thomas.
The speed at which they could move unnerved her as she saw Thomas close in on Zain with his supernatural speed.
She wanted to shout out a warning, but it was too late.
Or so she thought.
Zain’s reaction speed and spatial awareness exceeded her imagination as he ducked under the blade slash by Thomas.
Another longsword had appeared in his hands. But Cera could tell this was different from the others.
From her position, she could pick up the glowing runes and markings lighting up the sword.
The sword aimlessly cut through the air due to missing its target, but it was promptly redirected towards Zain.
Zain’s gaze was still locked forward, towards the trio, but that was not stopping his mobility.
Or capability. She thought to herself as she saw the sword in his right hand parry the incoming attack and pushed it into a perfect counter.
To save the day, Jentra shot up from his fall and tackled the still sword to the ground. At that…
Zain's gaze was free.
His counterattack landed, cutting a gash through Thomas's chest, but he did not seem to care.
Blood spurted out of Thomas's back and formed five blood blades which promptly took advantage of Zain's lag from his attack.
But, again.
Zain's gaze was free.
They froze.
All of the blades.
Including Thomas, who was promptly beheaded.
Even at that, the battle was not over.
Just before the decapitation, a massive amount of blood had shot out of Thomas's back.
The pool of blood formed another copy of him.
“Blood Manipulation.” Cera's ear caught wind of Thomas’s whisper. At the same time she felt the whole camp come alive.
This is blood wor… she did not get to finish the thought as a wave of gentle energy rushed through the whole area.
Not long after, it all went still.
He countered it. How? Cera was shell shocked.
Looking at the battle though, it seemed Thomas was not as he did not pause for even a heartbeat.
A massive amount of blood shot out from the various dead bodies around. Even clotted blood reverted and floated up.
“Blood Barrage.” Another whisper from Thomas.
The next scene reminded Cera of how truly strong the vampires were.
It was a bombardment.
Hundreds of high speed blood pellets shot at Zain from all directions.
The assault did not end there.
Cera's eyes caught a glimpse of a person shooting down from the sky.
On further inspection, it was someone she recognized.
But she knew it was not him.
His completely tainted black eyes was one indication, the other was the lack of a heartbeat from said person.
A Spectral. She thought.
“Arggghhh!!!!”
The husk of Aero Knight shot down at Zain. Cutting through the air, he boosted his speed three consecutive times with the aid of the body's ability.
The Spectral's attack was perfectly in sync with Thomas's barrage.
And
Boom!
A layered explosion.
Debris flew all over the place as the whole camp area was destroyed.
A few seconds later, the trio emerged from behind the practically destroyed High Lady's carriage. Just before the battle crescendo, Jentra had dragged the two battle mesmerized ladies to cover.
The camp area was totally destroyed, a dust covered crater seating in the middle of it.
“Is it over?” The High Lady's worried voice came from Cera's side.
“There is no way he lost, right?” Jentra spoke with both fear and uncertainty.
There was a beat of silence.
But through it all, Cera’s ears could pick up on the sound she had grown familiar with through the day.
The steady beat of a strong heart.
As if to reassure her, his gentle voice came through the silence as it completed his earlier statement.
“...it all.”
