As I walked into the sitting room, I could see somebody standing with his back to me but he must have heard my foot steps and turned to meet me and my breath was taken away. I have seen many handsome many growing up in the circle I did but I had to agree that I have never met a man as handsome as him. And that is what he was a man, he could never be mistaken as anything else. He stood tall, probably over six feet tall, with broad shoulders and dark hair that was swept to the side. His eyes where as dark as night, he had a cold hair about him like he could freeze even ice and could not be bothered by emotions but something in his eyes told me he was pure fire hidden under the ice.

  I tried to get my composure but I knew even while I have been caught off guard, it does not show from my facial expressions. He walked closer to me and I could feel the room grow smaller, 'Hi, my name is Han Jingsen.' he said while giving his hand for a hand shake. I shook his hand and replied, 'Hi, my name is Zhou Xue Li, but you probably already know that.'

  'Are you ready, shall we go?' he asked me and I nodded my head. He gave me his arm for me to take and led me to the car. Through out the drive to the Grand Palace Hotel where my birthday would be held he was quiet. I wanted to raise a topic to brake the silence but I did not know how to go about it, and something about him just made him seem unapproachable. We got to the hotel in no time and as the driver opened the door for me I stepped out of the car in a hurry trying to escape the awkwardness. He offered his arm to me again like a gentleman and I wondered if this was how he was to everybody or I was different.

  We walked into the lobby and was received by the manager, 'Good afternoon Miss Zhou and happy birthday.' he greeted me enthusiastically while shaking my hand. 'The party is already ongoing, let me lead you there.' He said without waiting for me to reply him, he knew I was not a fan of fawning and was usually cold, he did not want me to have any negative opinion of his hotel seeing as my grandfather was one of his biggest investors and a major share holder.

  The music was stopped and a light was cast on the door and the walkway parted, before a low song was put on. I took in a deep breath and looked at Han Jinsgsen knowing that if I take that step into the room then there would be no going back. It would mean that I had accepted him as my fiancé, I straitened my back and gripped his arms tightly before raising my leg to take that step.

  The doors was opened and we walked in together, I could feel the peoples gaze of everybody on us as we walked into the room, my eyes immediately found brother Hanbing and Ningyi where they stood with my other friends and from their gaze I could tell they where wandering what the hell was going on. They must be surprised as they had never saw Han Jingsen before, I stirred him towards them and I was crushed in a hug by Mei Mei, 'Happy birthday, I called you but you did not pick up. Who is he?' she asked me.

  'Sorry, I was busy and missed your call, this is Han Jingsen, my fiancé.' I said and it was quiet as if an angel walked by before everybody erupted. 'What the hell!! Since when.' 'What!!' 'Hah!' missed reaction poured out of the group, 'Fiancé, since when. He is hot and all but why are we just meeting him? Where did you both meet? When did you start dating? What about brother Hanbing?' Mei Mei ever the hyper one dropped one question after the other.

  'Slow down, I will give a reply to all your questions.' but before I could start talking, someone grabbed my hand and turned me, 'What the hell Xue Li, I have been trying to call you since yesterday but you ignored my calls, now you show up here with this weird guy saying he is your fiancé, what kind of game are you playing.' Hanbing said as he held my wrist and I pulled it back trying to hide the pain he caused me because he held me too tight.

  'I am not playing any games and it's exactly what it means, he is my fiancé. This is both a birthday party and an engagement party.' he wanted to say something but Lu Jietang held him back while saying, 'Not here, there is a crowd gathering. You guys should settle this later. Happy birthday munchkin.' he said while pulling away from Hanbing and walking to me. He pulled me into a hug and I just sank into his arms and breathed in his scent. Lu Jietang was the elder brother I always wished I had, he was also from a very prominent family one with old money and he was the guardian of our little group. I met brother Hanbing and Ningyi in school and it just so happens that our grandparents and parents knew each other, that is why we grew close, Lu Jietang has been picking me up anytime I fall since I was a kid in pigtails and he had to babysit me. His grandfather and mine grew up together and served together, he was always calm and protected us as the group grew bigger but he was always closer to me and since he was way older than us, he always saw us as trouble makers that had to be reined in. He never supported me dating Hanbing and he had told me so once but wanted me to do what I liked.

  I nearly started crying in his arms and I know he could tell that something was wrong but he did not want to bring it up in the presence of everybody, 'Save me a dance later and tomorrow we are going out, just the two of us okay.' he said while pulling back from the hug, he raised my chin with his hands so I could look into his eyes and gave me an encouraging smile and I just nodded in acceptance. He looked deeply at Han Jingsen before offering his hand to him while saying, 'Nice to meet you, I am Lu Jietang. The little munchkin is my little sister.' he said and from his look and the way he introduced me as his sister I know he was really saying, hurt her and you are dead. I smiled at what he said, although our families where close and they have been one or two marriages that may have happened between the two families over the years, we where not in any way related but I knew he was my big brother and would always protect me, we choose each other in a way.

  'Han Jingsen, nice to meet you also.' they shook hands and smiled, I could tell that the both of them would get along just fine. 'When did you get engaged, why did you not introduce him to me.' Ningyi held my hands swinging it like a kid while she pouted and gave Han Jingsen a flirty look filled with she was wronged and he needed to protect and defend her.

  I wanted to throw up and held it in while wandering how come I never noticed her sly personality before, the others may not be aware but I was very much aware that she was dating Hanbing but here she is trying to flirt with who I just introduced for the first time, what was wrong with her. I was saved from answering by the pianist starting up a song and Han Jingsen holding his hand out for me to take.
