CHAPTER SEVEN

I took his hand and we stepped to the dance floor together. He pulled me into his arms, and I could tell that I was the envy of most if not every lady in the room. We danced quietly and I did not know how to start up a conversation or what to say, just as I was trying to speak up I heard him say, 'So my fiancée enh, are you serious about it or just playing along with your grandfathers wishes.' I looked at him before replying, 'What do you think?'

'You don't seem like someone who would do something without thinking about it very carefully, but I could be wrong.' he said while casting a look in brother Hanbing's direction and I could tell that he was aware that there was something there. I knew I had to make everything clear if we are to succeed with whatever this was. I may have not been dancing in joy about the idea but now that I have accepted it, I would never go back or change my mind.

'I will not lie, I was not happy with the decision when my grandfather told me about it, I even fought back because I already had a map drawn out for my future, but life does not always go the way we expect. Since I have decided to accept my grandfathers will then I will do my best to ensure that I don't disappoint you or him.'

He looked deeply into my eyes as if trying to see into my soul before giving me a nod and replying, 'I would expect nothing less from you, and I will give you the same vow, for as long as we are together, I will endeavor to be the best partner to you. It may take us time, but I hope we will grow to accept each other, I am not asking for undying love and devotion, but I promise you that as long as you don't betray my trust and our vows, then I would never betray you or it. I will try my best to ensure that we are happy.'

I gave a little smile hearing what he said, 'I accept, let's be happy.' as soon as I said that he swirled me around in the dance floor and I could practically hear the ladies swooning at it. After the dance he led me to a table where the cake and other desserts were set out, after cutting the cake and carrying out the various activities planned out, I was practically half asleep. Throughout the occasion Han Jingsen ensured that I was not bothered by anybody and my whole attention was on him.

I could tell than Hanbing and Ningyi were trying to get me alone and question me on the new changes, but he did not give them the chance to do so. It was nice what he did, and I won't lie and say it did not reduce the walls I had against him, but I knew today would not be a peaceful day. It was already 1:00am when we drove out from the hotel, I could see Hanbing standing there and watching our car leave, I let out a breath I did not know I was holding. 'I will let you rest today but we should, meet tomorrow. Is that okay with you?' he asked as we got to the house. 'Thats fine with me, what time?' 'By six for dinner then, I will pick you up." I gave a nod in acceptance and stepped out of the car.

I went to bed immediately as I was exhausted from the day's activities, I was woken up by the constant ringing of my phone, I tried to ignoring it, but the ringing just would not end. In annoyance I picked up the phone to see who could not tell I needed the sleep, and I was not surprised to find out it was Hanbing calling. I did not want to answer but the phone started ringing again, letting out a sigh I answered it. 'Hello...' I said but before I could even finish saying what I wanted to he started shouting over me.

'Where are you, why are you not picking up my calls? I have been trying to reach you all morning." I pulled the phone from my ear because of how loud his voice was and it caused my sleep filled head to ache, looking at the time on the phone, I saw that it was already one in the afternoon.

'I am at home, where else will I be and why are you so anxious?' I asked him, 'You don't know why I am anxious, you came to the party with a strange man calling him your fiancé. You have been unreachable all morning, how am I sure that you are even at home right now.' Oh, that's why he was upset, he thought I went home with Jingsen, I guess he was jealous. Although I can't tell exactly why he was jealous, it was probably because of some misplaced sense of male pride, it definitely was not because he loved me. Hearing what he said about me I was sure he did not love me.

'I don't see what the issue is, I told you he was my fiancé. My grandfather arranged it, he is the grandson of his friend. And if I was unreachable, you only had to call the house phone, and you would be informed of my whereabouts.'

For a while he was quiet before he started speaking, 'I was worried and forgot I could call your landline, but what did you mean fiancé, you are my girlfriend. When did we breakup and you are suddenly engaged. Don't you have to breakup with me first before starting another relationship and even if it was your grandfathers plan, you don't have to go along with it. Why are you going along with this sham.'

'It is not a sham, you know I never go against any of my grandfather's plans for me, he loves me and would never do anything to hurt me. But this time I tried to reject him, but he refused to listen and went along with it anyway, so I am sorry to say it, but this relationship is over, and I am engaged to Han Jingsen, there is no going back. If we cancel or break the engagement then we will not be able to pay the price, my grandpa signed a deal with his. if I don't go along, we will be nothing more than paupers with nothing to our name. So do you still want me to end it, my grandpa got me good this time but if you are ready to take responsibility for me, we can go and register our marriage today.'

There was no response after I said that, after a while he said, 'Let me talk to my father, we don't have to rush while making decisions. I will call you later.'
